Nah Andy, I chose to read this scans_daily style: "Context is for the weak!"
But anyway, over in this neck of the woods, just recently, Chicago realized "Oh shit! We fucked up mass transit by horribly underfunding it for years and now it's biting us in the ass!", so not only did the fares increase to accommodate, but state and local taxes across the board have increased from already being really high. So at least here, the state and local governments are kinda countering whatever tax cuts may come from the big gov regardless. (And I now realize this could potentially be 'Chicago Annoying Files: Part 2' in the making. Eh, we'll see). I didn't put much thought into sharing that article. It just kind of stood out because it reminded me of all those chain emails that seem to use fuzzy logic in order to reaffirm an already established belief. Thankfully I haven't seen many of those since I started replying with 'I don't want to call you an idiot but here is a snopes article'-type messages.
As far as why the blogger chose to write about this now, probably just because it's tax season. The candidates haven't spent much time on taxes. They are too busy taking pot shots at each other. My taxes have been done for a while. I got my federal refund last week. Man I wish I was a student again, I get less and less back each year. At least I haven't owed anything yet. |
